Since mid-2000 the Zouki brothers have played a major role in redefining the traditional expectations of public hospitals - introducing restaurant-quality ambience, flavours, variety, décor and service into a typically uninviting environment. Having a keen eye for detail and an innate understanding of the needs of their clientele, in addition to vibrant cafés that offer fabulous fresh food and an escape from the hospital atmosphere for visitors, staff, patients and students, each of the Zoukis has been instrumental in the development of the very convenient Zouki SmartCard as a cashless method of payment for health workers, and an indirect means of facilitating the salary packaging of their meals.
Further developing the concept of providing convenience for the hospital population, Zouki has successfully negotiated the extension of its services into a variety of (non-food) retail outlets across five of its major sites – with the recent commencement of services at Canberra’s Calvary and Calvary John James Hospitals and the announcement of the successful bid as Head Lessee over the retail precincts at Westmead increasing this number of sites to nine in 2007.
The hospitals in which Zouki has made its impact thus far include:
- the Alfred Hospital (June 2000 – January 2006),
- the Royal Dental Hospital (May 2003 – November 2004),
- Caulfield Medical Centre (June 2003 – February 2006),
- St Vincent’s Hospital (June 2003 – current),
- Western Hospital (September 2004 – current),
- the Monash Medical Centre, Clayton (April 2005 – current),
- Dandenong Hospital (April 2005 – current),
- Casey Hospital (April 2005 – current),
- the Monash Medical Centre, Moorabbin (July 2005 – current)
- Cranbourne Integrated Care Centre (September 2005 – current),
- Williamstown Hospital (December 2006 – current),
- the Kingston Centre (January 2007 – current),
- the Calvary Hospital, Canberra (July 2007 – current)
- the Calvary John James Hospital, Canberra (July 2007 – current)
As can be seen from the success of the outlets that currently fall under the Zouki umbrella, the Zouki corporate goal is to set standards to which our competitors never even dare to aspire.
Offering high levels of convenience, efficiency, quality and service, we aim to provide a more inviting place for people to work, shop and visit. In our food outlets we pride ourselves on providing the highest calibre of service and up-market decor whilst serving up only the healthiest and most appetising varieties of restaurant-quality international cuisine. On any given day at each of Zouki’s anchor cafes, we offer over 30 varieties of hot food, plus salads, sushi, freshly-made sandwiches and focaccias, baked potatoes, home-made soups, savoury pastries, fruit-topped yoghurts, a startling array of gateaux, more than 15 types of sweet slices, an ever-growing range of cookies and shortbreads, ice creams, milkshakes, health smoothies, fresh juices, and enough coffee to keep an entire suburb awake for a week!
While a solid, high-quality food and beverage outlet has always been the heart of the Zouki retail philosophy, we also recognise the need for services and products extending into other areas of retail best described as “convenience”.
